In 1525, Henry became enamored with his wife, Katherine’s, Maid of Honour, Anne Boleyn. Katherine was no longer able to bear children, their only living child was Mary. Henry became convinced that the marriage was accursed and sought information from the Bible; which he interpreted as saying that if a man marries his brother’s wife, the marriage will be childless. Henry’s brother, Arthur, Prince of Wales, has been married to Katherine before him - this “proof” sent Henry to have the undying desire to get an annulment.
Katherine was defiant and refused the annulment, saying that she is “the King’s true and legitimate wife.”

At the time of Katherine of Aragon’s death in January 1536, Anne was again pregnant (for the fourth and final time) and quite aware of the dangers if she failed to birth a male heir. After a miscarriage caused by worry for Henry during an unhorsing at a joust, the end of this royal marriage was just starting.
